We have a neat little local market here that uses black plastic bags and that is what I decided to use for my first attempt at making my very own plarn rug.

I’m not following any patteren, more like working my crochet freestyle. The goal is to have a rug for either the front door or the kitchen.

I’ll update more as the project goes along.

Unfortunately, due to the budget and a menu that was unexpectedly changed a couple of times last week this Monday will include meat. I have pork that I need to cook before it turns and tonight is my last option for doing that. And in our current economy we are like a lot of today’s families and cannot afford to throw a meal out to adhere to Meatless Monday this week.

Now, next week I will be going back to the Meatless Monday schedule as grocery shopping will be this upcoming weekend.

Hope you all do have a wonderful Meatless Monday and I am looking forward to reading through the recipes posted on various blogs.

I have been trying to come up with a way to reuse our plastic grocery stores bags. At first I wanted to see if I could create a braided rug. I didn’t cut up the bags but just started to try and braid them…it did not work as they were way to bulky and uneven.

So, I took my search online to find out if anyone was making something useful with their plastic bags. My search proved quite fruitful and inspiring. I’ve decided that I want to make a rug for the kitchen. I do not know how well it will work until I get it finished and put it in use. I can however, keep you updated with the progress on my little project because our camera has been found!

My first task is to start making plarn, which is yarn made from plastic bags. The best tutorial that I have come across for making plarn is by Helle Jorgenson over at Gooseflesh. Click here to learn how to make plarn.

Here are some other links for crafty greenies who have made use of their plarn:

So, as you can see I did not get back on Friday to update with all new green snazzines. I did however have a great weekend with my family after catching the very early Dawn Patrol of the Reno Great Hot Air Balloon Race on Saturday. Moving on…

Last week I introduced my family to garden burgers. Our teenager was less than thrilled and didn’t get through her burger so I gave some thought about what her favorite dish is and how can I go meatless with it. Luckily her favorite meal is Spaghetti, a dish that is very easy to create meatless. She knows the sauce will be meatless tonight and she seems to be open to it so far. My plan is to make the sauce a bit chunky with extra diced bell peppers, mushrooms, onions and tomatoes. Organic spring mix salad and garlic bread will also be served.
